I’m Not Making Any Resolutions This Year

Did you make New Year’s resolutions? I’m a resolution-type person. I’m always thinking of ways I can improve myself and do better, do more, do it more quickly. Yet I’ve decided it will be growth-producing for me to make no resolutions this year. I’m thinking in terms of general directions rather than specific goals. I want to keep working on the new book on churches and money (a resolution from last year that didn’t get completed!), move toward providing more materials for church leaders online, and be present to my parents now that they live here in Portland. My spiritual director suggested earlier this year that it would be good for me to think about completing half my list half the days. That was a revolutionary concept!

Can we approach our to-do list and any resolutions or intentions we have for the new year with the same grace God extends to us?
